Clifden – the most beautiful town of Connemara

Ireland doesn’t have many metropolises and thus even some of the larger villages, such as Clifden are sometimes considered as one, even if it only has the population of about 1100 souls. Clifden, located on a forested plateau, above Clifden Bay, is the chief town of Connemara.

Clifden has two churches, several small restaurants and lively bars which are filled with music every night in the summer season. You can find pleasant accommodation options and outstanding walks. Peak season is mostly during the summer between July and August when all the crowds gather together here. In August many people come to see the Connemara Pony Show which is famous and popular all around the world.

Cong – the perfect filming location

The old-fashioned but beautiful village of Cong is located in Mayo County between Lough Mask and Lough Corrib. Across the town, surrounded by forests and hills, runs the River Cong. It is famous for being the filming location for The Quiet Man. The village has scattered around cottages covered in ivy. You can visit the Ashford Castle which is also a posh hotel open for all visitors, much loved by celebrities and billionaires. The castle used to be the country mansion of the Guinness family. You can find a public footpath from Cong Abbey which leads to the castle. If you would like to see the castle from a more romantic perspective, join the Corrib Cruise and have a boat trip. You can visit the interior of Ashford as well.
