Restaurants are not a modern invention and they have been around for hundreds of year in the guide of inns and taverns. As the oldest city in Ireland, it’s no surprise that Waterford is chock full of restaurants, one more interesting than the other. Waterford might not be the largest city in Ireland, but it has a bustling dining scene that caters to locals as well as to tourists looking for ‘authentic’ Irish experiences. From smoky and dark traditional pubs where you can taste old time Irish dishes and greasy but delicious pub grub to modern restaurants serving nouvelle cuisine and healthy options or ethnic cuisine, you can find every taste and flavor in this city. Here are the best restaurants in Waterford for the hungry traveler.

Bodega!, John Street, Waterford

Bodega seems small and unassuming on the outside, but it is not the cheapest restaurant in town, but you can be assured that is is one of the best. This small bistro has several French chefs, and a huge list of incredible dishes that range from seafood to twists on Irish favorites. The food is great value considering how tasty it is, and the deserts, especially the chocolate souffle, take the cake!

If you are in the mood for fine French cuisine, La Bohème will make your wildest dining dreams come true. This is the best French restaurant in Waterford, and it is only fitting that the decor is also like something out of a Parisian catalogue. You can find the restaurant in the vaulted basement of an old Georgian home, and the intimate atmosphere only makes the food seem more delicious.

Espresso, Parnell Street

Espresso probably has the best pizza in Co Waterford, and so many pasta dishes that you’ll have a tough time deciding what to get. The place is not very formal, and it is a great place to stop by for lunch or dinner. The bruschetta are delicious, and the house wine comes in liter flagons. Try the homemade burgers as well, they are delicious and very filling.

The menu has a great selection of Irish and international dishes, and the seafood chowder is definitely one of the best in the city. The delicious food and the very reasonable price make the Cottage Bistro one of the best restaurants in Waterford, and a very pleasant place to spend the evening.

Cafe Lucia, Arundel Square

The food at Cafe Lucia is simply scrumptious, and the menu is varied with specials changed often. Follow your lunch with one of the many interesting hot drinks on the menu.
