With Christmas around the corner everyone around the world is slowly starting to prepare for this annual celebration. The streets and store windows soon will be decorated with lights and winter accessories, the radio channels will switch to Frank Sinatra’s and Whitney Houston’s winter albums and gradually the atmosphere builds up until its climax: Christmas Eve.

In Ireland there are numberless fairs and festivals organized with tons of exciting and fun activities for the whole family. Come and join the crowds in the Lodge at Doonbeg and in Winterval at Waterford.

Christmas Markets in the Lodge at Doonbeg’s

Visit The Lodge at Doonbeg where from the 29th of November till the 1st of December the annual Christmas Market will follow the tradition of cities such as Prague, Munich and Vienna. Watch as the courtyard of Doonbeg transforms into a town square of old times where stalls are packed with fine Christmas treat and handmade crafts.

If you want to get in the festive mood join this traditional environment and let yourself be carried away by the smell of roasted meet and gingerbread. The market has a live nativity scene and a station where Santa is waiting to meet all the children who want to meet him in person (pre-registration is required). Maybe you can join the carol singers and sing along your favorite Christmas carols. Entrance to the market is free and its doors are open from 11am to 6pm.

Winterval at Waterford

From the 29th of November until the end of the year the most delightful Christmas festival of Ireland is held in Waterford, the oldest city in the country. Everywhere you look Christmas will be there on every corner. Attend the seasonal events and join in the activities which are set in special and unique heritage sites all over town. If you are a group of young people or still young at heart who is looking for some winter fun, Winterval is the place you need. Walk into winter wonderland which was inspired from several European Christmas markets.

Make Winterval the highlight of your winter season and visit the toy museum and Santa at the Medieval Museum or just enjoy a Georgian Christmas. Take a ride on the Winterval Express and visit the reindeers at the animal farm. In Reginald’s Tower you can listen to some spectacular storytelling and also witness a spectacular light and sound show in Cathedral Square.
