With Christmas around the corner everyone around the world is slowly starting to prepare for this annual celebration. The streets and store windows soon will be decorated with lights and winter accessories, the radio channels will switch to Frank Sinatra’s and Whitney Houston’s winter albums and gradually the atmosphere builds up until its climax: Christmas Eve.

In Ireland there are numberless fairs and festivals organized with tons of exciting and fun activities for the whole family. Come and join the crowds at Duckett’s Grove Christmas Craft and Food Fair and be part of the Glow as the lights illuminate Cork city.

A winter wonderland at Duckett’s Grove

On the 8th of December you can be part of the annual Christmas fair at Duckett’s Grove where this supersized food and craft market will offer you from musical entertainment to anything else you need. You can buy Christmas cards, hand crafts, ceramics, decorations, jewelry and make it a special gift for someone you love. Breathe in the Christmas atmosphere with baked goods smelling in the air such as seasonal tarts, pies, puddings and so on.

Get you Christmas tree at Duckett’s Grove and don’t forget about the mistletoe! A glass of mulled wine might cheer you up if you are in a sad mood or have a hot drink if you need to warm up on that cold winter day. Your tummy will not be left empty either as you can have some delicious homemade burgers at Paul Stock barbeques or Coolanowle Organics. Visit the tea room and have a taste of the numerous Christmas goodies. Bring your little ones so they can meet Santa Clause and get a free present. There will also be free face painting, Christmas stories, musical performances and a live nativity scene.

Christmas in Cork – the Glow festival

On the 17th of November thousands of little lights signified that the seasonal festivities are getting started. This event is an official launch for Christmas when the stage gives place to musical performances and all people present can watch the special lighting illumination show. This unique annual event is called the Glow festival which last until the 23rd of December. Visit the enchanted village of Tír na Nollaig which is guarded by toy soldiers sized larger than life. Enter a Christmas fairytale where the magical inhabitants of the woodland will greet you and where you will see faeries, snowflakes and magical forest creatures.

Listen to the lovely traditional Irish music playing in the background as walk across this winter wonderland. Your children can send their letters sprinkled with fairy dust to Santa Clause living in the North Pole. At the crafts market and exhibition you can find the perfect Christmas present for all your family members and friends. Let it be art, toys, accessories, jewelry or other objects, you can find them all at the fair. Cork being the culinary capital of the country will also offer you some delicious local foods and deserts, all adding to the atmosphere of the seasonal holiday.
